Professor Constantinos Stathopoulos, PhD

Constantinos Stathopoulos is Professor of Biochemistry, Head of the Department of Biochemistry of the Medical School and leader of the RNA Biology research group of the University of Patras (rna.med.upatras.gr). For the 2025-2027 term he serves as the Dean of the School of Health Sciences of the University of Patras. He graduated from the Department of Biology (1991) and received his PhD in Biochemistry (1996) from the School of Medicine of the University of Patras. In 1998-2002 he was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University, USA. In 2018-2019 he was a Fulbright Scholar for research at the NIH (Bethesda, MD, USA). His research group focuses on studying the expression, function, structure and interactions of many small and large regulatory noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) in diseases, using novel technologies such as genomic editing, NGS, structural and bioinformatics analyses of molecular networks that affect gene expression. He has been awarded in national and international conferences, is scientific leader of several national and international research projects and he has given invited lectures at both national and international conferences and research centers. He is member of the Editorial Boards of FEBS Letters, International Journal of Molecular Sciences, Antibiotics and Frontiers in Genetics. He has served as organizer or member of organizing committees of several national and international conferences including the 25th and the 30th tRNA Conferences. He has served as a reviewer for more than 70 international journals, for all the main national research funding agencies (GET, ELIDEK, IKY) as well as for many international agencies (Austria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Germany, Israel, Saudi Arabia) and the European Union.
